FWIW:

I love my Ruger MKIII, 22/45, but the grip area is a bit slim or thin... Any nice aftermarket grips available for it?

Thanks!:)

There is a thread here about a guy who makes special grips to fit the 22/45. The guy who makes them also makes several other 1911 grips that can be trimmed on the top left corner of the left grip and work great on the ruger. I have a set of 1911 grips on mine and think that they make it just thick enough to be comfortable.

Does your 22/45 have removable grip panels? If so you can likely use most 1911 grips and Hogue Grips now makes grips for the 22/45 w/removable grips.

If you have the non-removable grip model you have three choices

1. Slip on grip glove by Hogue

2. Custom made grips that fit over and around your built in grips made by
Dominic.Notaro@csinet.net

3. Grind off your built in grips and install 1911 grip bushings or have someone do it for you. http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=380699

Thanks to those who responded.. I like the looks of those grips by DURAGRIPS. I'm so new to the 22/45 I don't KNOW if the grips on my particular pistol are removable or not.

They don't "look" removable, but if they are a set of DURAGRIPS might be nice.

I just "assumed" (and we know what that'll get for you) all MKIII 22/45 "grips" were the same. Is there a version with removable grips and one without?

I'll attach a photo of my 22/45 so perhaps someone can clue me in.

Thanks!

yours are molded in the frame. so you can't change them with out doing other things to the frame to get it done.

lots of other post on here about doing things to the grips.

I think you can get a set that just wraps around what you have

others are to grind off what you have and add bushings to be able to mount 1911 grips.

someone on here makes grips for your gun but I understand he is hard to get ahold of.

new here myself, but have lurked a long time.

someone will point you in the right direction.

This is a old set of 1911 grips I put on my slab side 22/45 RP. Added a extended mag release also as the 1911 grips were a bit wider than the stock grips that came with the gun.

Thanks again for the responses!

No problem about the grips being molded on. I'll just leave em' alone, and if I feel an overwhelming urge to spend money on what is already a very good plinker I'll consider upscale trigger or sight options. :D

Thanks again!

If you get a chance to shoot someones 1911 style gun in rimfire or center fire it will give you an excellent comparison to know if you like it better than the skinny one piece molded 22/45 frame. If you find it fills your hand better than with your gun then come back to the idea of the overlay grips or some sort of sleeve.

I've got pretty big hands (L or XL glove depending on the make) and find the skinny style like your gun is much too skinny for my likeing. But a proper width 1911 style size fits like a nice glove.

PIX15-yeah I got a surprise too. I bought a frame online to use with my Pac Lite and assumed the black grips pictured were the rubber ones that come off. These feel really cheap and crappy to me. I'm trying to find a slip on, something like a Hogue Handall or similar. So far no luck. For those of you with changeable grip panels, Majestic Arms makes some nice after mkt grips. That's the same company that makes the speed strip kit.
